This is a view of the Zakim Bridge, on Rte 93 southbound, traveling south into Boston. The low winter sun, creating deep shadows from the bridge...

Stuck in the Snow at Lake Winnipesaukee on a Below Freezing Cold Day

This picture is me... The ignorant traveler!

This first picture looks innocent enough...

I spent the weekend in winter wonderland (Laconia, NH). I spent most of my time inside working on the computer. I was planning on traveling around a bit, to take some photos, before heading back to Boston. I left Laconia and made a few photo pit stops and took some photos. I mainly was taking the pictures because I know some people that have never seen a huge lake, frozen solid with fishing sheds planted randomly across the lake. You can see them as little spots on the open space, in the photo above. I decided to get a closer look at the lake so I could take some better photos. I found a park situated right next to the lake and saw a working path that was being used by ski-mobilers and the local fisherman. They used the path the drive their fishing houses out on the frozen lake. Sooooooooooo, I decided to drive my 4 wheel drive Explorer closer and stayed on the path. I stopped close to what seemed to be the edge of the frozen lake and got out with my camera and took some snap shots. When I was satisfied with what I had taken with my digital camera, I climbed back in my Explorer and thought it would be easy to turn around and get back on the road to Boston.
Well... as I turned, I got off the packed snow path and sunk right down into the thick snow. I spent about 20 - 30 minutes trying to get out, but was firmly planted in the snow.
Suddenly, off in the distance, I saw 2 people walking towards me. I decided to be patient and waited for them to greet me. I found out that they had been fishing on the frozen lake and unfortunately didn't catch anything, like the snow had caught me. :) LOL
Keith and John were their names and they gladly agree to help me out of my snow ditch. But after a few tries, I was securely planted. We didn't have rope or chain to pull me out and then suddenly another truck pulls up with a trailer in tow. It was two local fisherman that were blocked by my Explorer, from getting on the frozen lake. They also, without hesitation decided to help get me. So, now I have 4 good Samaritans helping me from my clearly uneducated driving experience.
All 4 men got in front of my Explorer and pushed, but still nothing. The 2 new fisherman decided to drive to a friends house nearby and get a chain so they could pull me out with a the rugged jeep that Keith owned.
Once they returned with the chain, it was pretty easy to pull me out and get back on my way.
I just want to say how truly grateful I was that these 4 men didn't hesitate to help a total stranger. I know that I would do the same and I want to say "Thank you" for helping me out of my snowy situation.
Oh, by the way, did I mention that it was about 18 degrees when I got stuck in the snow...
Again, thanks guys, I appreciate your help!!!!!!!!!!
I can be contacted at gregkorg@gmail.com if you want to give me more info on my helping friends.

This is a picture of Keith and his rugged jeep...
This picture is Keith and John...
This is a picture of Mike... I didn't get a picture of his partner, sadly!

This final image is my Explorer sunken into the snow.It really doesn't look that bad, but its firmly held by my snow holes.

Cruising is Fun!

I've been on a few cruises and have loved every one. There is so much to do and see. You get to go to a different location every day. If you plan well, you can take full advantage of everything there is to offer at the different ports. I enjoy the warm weather, so the Caribbean Cruises are my favorites. My goal is to take a cruise around the world.
I have a website where I am building a group of fellow enthusiasts. Visit it for more information and to join... http://www.travelclubboston.com

Boston Reflections

Boston is a beautiful city... I took this picture a few years ago and it was taken at dusk. The city is small but offers so much.

Very Cold in New Hampshire

This is a night shot of the snowy hillside. The lights give this shot a warm glow, but its about 2 degrees.

Building a Successful Travel Club

There is so much on the internet now. It's mind bending!!! Which way do you go to convince people that you are legitimately working on building a group of people with common interests and goals... which way is the best way?
